Man creates amazing £20 princess cottage bed for three-year-old granddaughter

When Hollie Websdale was little, she had a princess bed she loved.

Now 21, she wanted to create something for her own daughter Eliza, three.

But looking online, they cost around £800 and it was out of her budget so her dad Richard, 43, stepped in to help.

He managed to create an amazing princess cottage bed for just £20.

The bed features a sofa that was built out of the ends of Eliza’s cot, two windows made from scrap wood, a door with a door lock that was made out of some leftover wood, a small TV attached to the inside wall of the mini house below the bed, a play kitchen and stairs that lead up to the bed.

It took Richard and Hollie two weeks to build and only cost a mere £20 to build as most of the materials were recycled.

Hollie posted the finished result on Facebook with hundreds of people reacting to the photos and finding inspiration to DIY their own daughter’s beds.

Eliza now spends most of her time in her bedroom, enjoying the brand new bed her grandfather made for her.

Hollie said: ‘My little girl had a normal single bed and I wanted to get a similar style bed like I had whilst she was still little and could have something fun.

‘To buy one, you’re looking at around £800 upwards and that’s without any lights, doors or windows.

‘The beds I could see were nothing at all like what Eliza has now, they were a lot smaller in height with no detail such as the windows and doors etc.

‘I just wanted a little house underneath like I had. I wanted it to be girly for her so I decided to paint it pink with white detail.’

The only thing they bought was a sheet of wood from B&Q for the front of the house.

Hollie adds: ‘Screws and fixings we already had, wood was salvaged from an old broken high sleeper bed and her cot bed. We even used a broken stair gate we had to create spindles for the stairs!

‘The pink paint was actually a dark pink and from a bin my dad had got and we just mixed it with some white emulsion paint which was also from a bin, to get the desired colour.

‘She spends most of her time in there now playing with her Paw Patrol figures which she is obsessed with! She calls it her little living room and she’s so excited to play in it with all her friends.’
